I’m totally obsessed with the new American Girl doll, Isabel. She is from a time long, long ago. 1999 to be exact. She is the first “historical” AG doll I have ever identified with. I did not survive the American Revolution (like Felicity) or attend a one-room schoolhouse (like Kirsten). But I did have an obsession with butterfly string lights and preppy clothes (like Isabel), so I finally feel seen by the AG doll historians.
This has inspired me to create my own historical toy called “Hooray USA!” Dolls. It’s for those of us who want to identify with a historical doll, but don’t care to rehash the pioneer days. For the sake of simplicity, each doll is 12 years-old and lives in the suburbs. So here are the initial offering of my Hooray USA! Dolls.
Brittany, 2004 Hooray USA! Doll
Clothes: Denim mini skirt, shrunken polo shirt from American Eagle, Old Navy flip flops, flat-ironed hair.
